Clinical Details
As the virus replicates at the initial entry site, it alters the sensory pathways of the local peripheral nerves. Patients often experience intense itching, pain, or numbness exactly where the initial animal bite occurred. This is frequently the very first clinical indicator that the virus has reached the nervous system.
