Coryza
Type: Symptom
Definition
Acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavities, producing nasal discharge.
Clinical Details
The virus directly infects the ciliated epithelial cells of the upper respiratory tract. This provokes intense local inflammation, leading to excessive mucus production and a continuously runny nose. It affects almost all patients during the early, highly infectious prodromal phase.
