Definition

The feeling that a joint is rigid and difficult to move.

Clinical Details

Inflammation of the synovial membrane and a lack of smooth gliding surfaces make the joint feel locked or tight. This stiffness is most pronounced immediately upon waking in the morning or after a long period of inactivity. It typically loosens up after a few minutes of gentle movement.
