Definition
A grayish-white ring or arc visible around the peripheral cornea of the eye.
Clinical Details
Excess cholesterol circulating in the bloodstream slowly deposits into the stromal layer of the cornea over many years. This creates a distinct, opaque ring bordering the iris. While it does not affect vision, its presence in younger individuals strongly suggests severe, familial hyperlipidemia.
