A searing or gnawing ache in the center of the abdomen.
Clinical Details
Highly acidic stomach juices come into direct contact with the exposed nerve endings in the raw, ulcerated tissue. This chemical burn causes a sharp, gnawing pain that worsens when the stomach is empty. The pain is temporarily relieved by eating food or taking antacids.
