Definition
A dull, persistent ache in the joint after the acute pain subsides.
Clinical Details
Even after the initial, excruciating attack resolves, the joint does not immediately return to normal. Mild inflammation and residual crystal deposits keep the area tender and slightly swollen for days or weeks. Subsequent attacks tend to last longer and affect more joints.
