Clinical Details
Microscopic uric acid crystals form inside the joint capsule, acting like tiny shards of glass scraping against the sensitive synovial lining. The immune system aggressively attacks these crystals, causing an explosion of painful inflammation. The pain is usually most severe within the first twelve hours of an attack.
