Definition
A bone disease that develops when bone mineral density and bone mass decrease.
Clinical Details
The excess PTH continuously signals osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue, to leach calcium from the skeleton into the blood. Over time, this constant demineralization severely weakens the structural integrity of the bones. Patients become highly susceptible to bone pain and pathological fractures from minor trauma.
