Definition

An abnormally high level of glucose in the blood.

Clinical Details

As visceral fat increases, cells become less responsive to the insulin produced by the pancreas. Glucose struggles to enter the cells for energy and instead accumulates in the bloodstream. This chronic elevation of blood sugar damages blood vessels over time.
