Massive, rapid fluid accumulation causing tight swelling.
Clinical Details
The massive destruction of tissues and blood vessels causes the hand to swell instantly and severely. The hand may double in size, becoming incredibly tight, shiny, and hard to the touch. This intense swelling acts like a tourniquet, further cutting off blood supply to the fingers and creating a surgical emergency known as compartment syndrome.
