Definition

Impaired ability to walk normally due to pain and weakness.

Clinical Details

Because the calf muscle is responsible for pointing the foot downward and propelling the body forward, walking becomes extremely difficult. The patient will exhibit a severe limp, unable to transition weight smoothly from the heel to the toe. In severe, high-grade tears, bearing any weight on the leg causes the muscle to collapse.
