Leg Fixation
Type: Symptom
Definition
The leg is mechanically locked in an abnormal position.
Clinical Details
Once dislocated, the mechanical ball-and-socket joint is disconnected and the powerful hip muscles spasm violently, locking the leg in place. In the most common type (posterior dislocation), the knee and foot are rotated sharply inward toward the opposite leg. The patient cannot straighten or untwist the limb.
