Clinical Details
Because an abrasion exposes a massive number of superficial nerve endings all at once, the pain is often described as a widespread, intense burning or stinging. This pain is acutely triggered by exposure to air, changes in temperature, or contact with water and antiseptics. It lacks the deep throbbing ache of a bruise or fracture.
