Clinical Details
A fracture passing through the body of the mandible often crushes or stretches the inferior alveolar nerve running inside the bone. This damage results in a distinct loss of feeling in the lower lip, chin, and lower teeth on the affected side. This numbness is a strong clinical indicator of a fracture rather than just a bruise.
