An abnormal bulge in the upper arm.
Clinical Details
When the tendon tears, the biceps muscle is no longer held tightly in place and retracts, bunching up into a large, visible ball in the middle of the upper arm. This characteristic deformity is colloquially named after the cartoon character Popeye. It is a definitive visual sign of a complete tendon rupture.
