Pain experienced during a bowel movement.
Clinical Details
Because the coccyx serves as an attachment point for various muscles and ligaments of the pelvic floor, the mechanical action of straining during a bowel movement can pull on the fractured bone. This causes sharp, shooting pain during defecation. Constipation may develop as a secondary symptom if the patient avoids bathroom trips due to pain.
