Definition

The outward turning of a limb away from the body's midline.

Clinical Details

In addition to appearing shortened, the injured leg will typically roll outward so that the knee and foot point away from the body. Because the structural integrity of the femur neck is destroyed, the hip loses its normal rotational control. Attempting to roll the leg back to a neutral position causes immense pain.
