Urine that turns black or dark brown upon standing.
Clinical Details
When homogentisic acid in the urine is exposed to oxygen, it undergoes a chemical reaction that darkens the fluid. This is often the first sign noticed by parents in an infant's diaper, although it may be asymptomatic for years.
