Definition
Abnormal change in the color of the skin.
Clinical Details
In the early stages, known as frostnip, the skin appears red and inflamed. As tissues begin to freeze, the skin turns completely white, pale, or a waxy grayish-yellow. In severe, advanced frostbite where tissue death (gangrene) occurs, the affected area turns purplish-blue and eventually black.
