The shedding of the outer layer of skin.
Clinical Details
As the burn begins to heal, the dead tissue of the epidermis dries out and flakes off in large sheets or small scales. This peeling process allows new, healthy skin cells to migrate to the surface. It can be accompanied by intense itching and usually occurs several days after the initial thermal injury.
