Definition
Discoloration of the skin caused by bleeding underneath.
Clinical Details
Bruising appears when small blood vessels tear along with the ligament fibers, causing blood to pool under the skin. Initially appearing red or purple, it may spread down to the toes or up the lower leg over a few days. The bruise will eventually turn yellow or green as the body reabsorbs the blood.
