Hearing loss caused by damage to the inner ear or the nerve from the ear to the brain.
Clinical Details
The highly specialized basement membranes of the cochlea in the inner ear degrade due to the lack of normal type IV collagen. This structural failure causes bilateral, progressive hearing loss that usually becomes evident in late childhood or early adolescence.
