Definition
Benign tumors that grow on or under the skin along nerves.
Clinical Details
The loss of the tumor-suppressor function of neurofibromin allows Schwann cells and other nerve sheath components to proliferate. This creates soft, fleshy bumps on or under the skin that can increase in number and size over a person's lifetime.
