A disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood.
Clinical Details
Iron buildup in the cardiac muscle cells interferes with electrical conduction and contraction strength. This can lead to heart failure or arrhythmias, which are potentially life-threatening if the iron is not removed through phlebotomy.
