Clinical Details
Because thyroid hormones tightly regulate the metabolic rate and the synthesis of growth hormone, their absence shuts down normal somatic development. The skeletal framework fails to elongate normally, resulting in extremely disproportionate short stature. The physical deformity is permanent and does not respond significantly to later nutritional correction.
