Clinical Details
Historically observed in World War II prisoners of war suffering severe malnutrition, this paresthesia is driven by localized peripheral nerve damage due to altered lipid metabolism. Patients experience an intense, deep-seated burning pain primarily in the soles of their feet, which is noticeably worse at night. The pain is often accompanied by hyperesthesia, making any touch agonizing.
