An abnormal enlargement of the heart.
Clinical Details
As the heart muscle fibers sustain oxidative damage and necrose, the heart's walls become weak and flabby. To compensate for the loss of pumping efficiency, the heart chambers dilate and expand significantly in volume. This massive enlargement can be seen clearly on chest X-rays and severely impairs cardiac output.
