Clinical Details
The mucosal lining of the mouth requires rapid and continuous cell division to maintain its integrity, a process heavily reliant on folate for DNA synthesis. Without it, the mucosal barrier breaks down, resulting in shallow, extremely painful ulcers on the gums, tongue, and inner cheeks. This often makes eating and drinking highly uncomfortable.
