Clinical Details
The rapid loss of fat and muscle gives affected individuals a distinct "skin and bones" appearance. The ribs become starkly visible through the chest wall, and the joints appear enlarged due to the lack of surrounding muscle mass. This profound physical wasting is the defining visual characteristic of marasmus.
