Definition

A failure to reach typical height and developmental milestones at the expected age.

Clinical Details

Because skeletal growth relies heavily on calcium and phosphorus metabolism, their absence stunts the normal elongation of long bones. Affected children typically fall to lower percentiles on growth charts compared to healthy peers. The overall skeletal development is persistently slowed until the deficiency is corrected.
