Definition
An outward curving of the legs that becomes evident when a child begins to stand or walk.
Clinical Details
As the weight of the growing child presses down on softened, poorly mineralized leg bones, the bones begin to physically bend outward. This deformity is a hallmark mechanical response to weakened skeletal integrity. It causes an abnormal gait and alters the mechanical alignment of the lower limbs.
