A noticeable lack of hair development in the axillary and genital regions during puberty.
Clinical Details
The growth of terminal pubic and underarm hair is entirely dependent on the presence of androgens (male sex hormones) acting on local hair follicles. Because the androgen receptors in AIS patients are defective, the follicles cannot respond to the circulating testosterone. The patient will develop breasts due to estrogen conversion but will remain largely hairless in these areas.
