A lack of natural lubrication in the vaginal tissues.
Clinical Details
Estrogen is strictly required to maintain the thickness, elasticity, and natural lubrication of the vaginal mucosa. Without it, the tissues undergo atrophy, becoming thin, dry, and fragile. This causes significant discomfort, itching, and painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia).
