Definition
A state in which the pituitary gland fails to produce one or more of its hormones.
Clinical Details
While the flattened pituitary gland often continues to function normally, severe or prolonged physical compression by the cerebrospinal fluid can permanently damage the hormone-producing cells. This leads to a gradual, insidious failure of one or more endocrine axes, potentially causing fatigue from low cortisol or thyroid hormone, or sexual dysfunction.
