Sudden, episodic reddening and warming of the skin, typically on the face and upper chest.
Clinical Details
The release of vasoactive substances like histamine and tachykinins causes the superficial blood vessels in the skin to aggressively and suddenly dilate. This results in a vivid, deep red or purplish flush over the face, neck, and upper torso. The flushing episodes can be triggered by alcohol, certain foods, or emotional stress, and may last from minutes to hours.
