Definition

The formation of a blood clot within a deep vein, predominantly in the legs.

Clinical Details

Glucagonomas are highly associated with a hypercoagulable state, meaning the blood has an abnormal tendency to clot. The exact mechanism is tied to the systemic effects of the tumor's secreted peptides on coagulation factors. Patients are at an extremely high risk for life-threatening blood clots, which can travel to the lungs (pulmonary embolism).
