Severe pain located in the front of the neck, over the thyroid gland.
Clinical Details
The acute viral-induced inflammation causes the capsule surrounding the thyroid gland to rapidly stretch and swell. This capsular stretching is highly painful. The pain is typically exquisite, making the neck incredibly tender to the touch, and often radiates upward into the jaw or ears.
