Primary Amenorrhea
Type: Symptom
Definition
The failure of menses to occur by age 15 in the presence of normal growth and secondary sexual characteristics.
Clinical Details
In females with Kallmann syndrome, the profound lack of GnRH means the pituitary never releases FSH or LH. The ovaries remain entirely dormant and do not produce estrogen or mature eggs. Consequently, the uterine lining never proliferates, and the patient never experiences a natural menstrual period.
