The pituitary damage also results in secondary adrenal insufficiency due to the lack of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). This causes a significant drop in adrenal androgens, which are responsible for maintaining axillary and pubic hair in women. Over the months following the hemorrhage, patients notice their body hair falling out and failing to regrow.
