Clinical Details
High levels of circulating androgens overstimulate the sebaceous glands in the skin, causing them to produce excessive amounts of sebum (oil). This excess oil, combined with dead skin cells, clogs pores and creates an ideal environment for bacterial growth. The resulting acne is often deep, cystic, and highly resistant to standard dermatological treatments.
