Infrequent or highly irregular menstrual periods.
Clinical Details
The hormonal imbalance in PCOS, particularly elevated LH and androgens, disrupts the normal maturation of ovarian follicles. Because follicles fail to mature and release an egg (anovulation), the typical hormonal triggers for menstruation do not occur. Patients may experience fewer than eight menstrual cycles in a year.
