Clinical Details
The systemic slowing of metabolic processes extends to the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract. Decreased gut motility means food and waste move much more sluggishly through the intestines. This leads to excess water absorption in the colon and difficult, infrequent bowel movements.
