Definition

A set of symptoms indicating a loss of contact with reality, where a person struggles to distinguish between what is real and not real.

Clinical Details

It is characterized by hallucinations (sensing things not there) and delusions (false beliefs), often accompanied by confused thinking and disorganized speech such as thoughts may move too quickly, leading to confused, muddled, or fast speech. Could be accompanied with social withdrawal, lack of self-care, or unusual, unpredictable behavior. Also intense emotions, inappropriate emotional responses, or a lack of emotion. It is a treatable condition, not a specific illness, and early intervention is crucial.
