An abnormal heart sound heard during the contraction phase of the heartbeat.
Clinical Details
The turbulent, high-velocity flow of blood squeezing through the restricted, calcified valve opening creates a distinct "whooshing" sound. This is classically a crescendo-decrescendo murmur heard via a stethoscope.
