Progressive Proximal Weakness
Type: Symptom
Definition
Muscle weakness that begins in the pelvic area, thighs, and shoulders.
Clinical Details
The absence of dystrophin causes these large, proximal muscle groups to rapidly break down under mechanical stress. This quickly robs children of the ability to run, jump, or climb stairs.
