Definition
Abnormal movement between vertebrae due to a loss of structural support.
Clinical Details
As the discs lose height and integrity, the spinal segment can become mechanically unstable. Patients may experience sudden "giving way" sensations in their back and subsequent muscle spasms as the body attempts to stabilize the spine.
