Description
A rib fracture is a structural breach in the bony framework protecting the chest cavity, typically caused by blunt force trauma such as a fall, car accident, or tackle in contact sports. While a simple cracked rib is painful but heals on its own, multiple fractures can be life-threatening if they puncture internal organs like the lungs. Elderly individuals with osteoporosis are at a heightened risk for this injury.
