Description
EDS comprises several distinct subtypes, mostly caused by genetic mutations affecting the synthesis and structure of collagen. Because collagen provides strength and elasticity to connective tissues throughout the body, defective collagen results in widespread systemic fragility. Symptoms can range from mildly loose joints to life-threatening vascular complications.
