Description
A VIPoma is an incredibly rare, usually malignant neuroendocrine tumor arising from the islet cells of the pancreas. The tumor autonomously secretes massive quantities of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). VIP acts strongly on the gastrointestinal tract, forcing the intestines to actively secrete massive volumes of water and electrolytes, leading to rapid, life-threatening dehydration.
