Description
Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) is an atypical neurodegenerative syndrome, often considered a visual variant of Alzheimer's disease. Unlike typical Alzheimer's which attacks memory centers first, PCA involves the accumulation of amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the back of the brain (the occipital and parietal lobes), which are responsible for processing visual information. It typically strikes individuals earlier than standard Alzheimer's, often in their 50s or 60s.
